Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort: Romance by the Sea

When my partner and I needed to take some time off from our busy schedules and get away for a short break, we quickly decided on a romantic getaway by the sea and headed off for Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort.
After arriving at the airport, we travelled along the southwest coast of Bali, our journey taking us through picturesque Balinese villages, lush paddy fields and rice terraces, and we found ourselves in the wonderfully rich and green regency of Tabanan. The ever-changing patchwork colours of the rice terraces and the spectacular backdrop of mountain ranges led us to Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort
The award-winning resort is just minutes from town, yet in a world all its own. Surrounded by emerald rice fields and overlooking the sacred Tanah Lot Hindu Temple, it offers a true taste of Bali.
The breathtaking vistas and completely natural ambience set it apart from other resort hotels in Bali. Panoramic views from the hotel’s lobby include the crashing surf, which forms a stunning backdrop to the entire resort. The seat of Bali’s mystical culture is just next door where the enchanting Tanah Lot Temple, perched on a rocky outcrop, is dramatically set off against an orange-hued sky at dusk and can be viewed from the main areas of the hotel. In the rooms and suites, large balconies open out to reveal spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding greenery.
Romance by the Sea
Water is a dominant feature of the resort, from the nearby sea to the waterfalls and ponds dotted around the extensive gardens. The swimming pools are wonderful and you must try the 54-metre waterslide. Paved pathways wander throughout the resort and are perfect for a pleasant stroll in the morning or evening.
We quickly discovered the bales, or open-air pavilions, tucked away in the gardens. With spectacular views of the Indian Ocean and Tanah Lot Temple, we spent hours together in the bales, taking naps, reading or talking, simple things we too often do not have the time for back in the city. The view was magnificent and the atmosphere serene, with the soothing sound of the waves on the beach and the sea breeze caressing our bodies. The best thing was that we truly treasured each other’s company. Knowing that the person you love is sitting right beside is precious. It felt like time was standing still, and that we were the only two people in the world.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed sunset walks to Tanah Lot Temple. It was a truly memorable experience as we watched the sun settle into the Indian Ocean from our dramatic cliff-top vantage point overlooking the temple. It was simply breathtaking. Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort truly is in a class of its own.
Food of Love
The resort boasts eight distinctive restaurant and bar concepts matched with a diverse range of international and local cuisines, aimed at pampering palates with epicurean specialties and ensuring that you will never go hungry staying at the resort. Its signature Merica restaurant features the all-new Pacific Cuisine, an engaging and innovative interpretation of the cuisines along the Pacific Rim.
Our favourite was TLC, an inviting cafe wine bar with outdoor seating and oversized, colourful bean bags on the lawn for a casual dining ambience. It is also the place to sip Pan Pacific’s signature Pacific Cocktails, also inspired by the Pacific Rim and created with local ingredients.
For the creme de la creme of romantic dining, we had an intimate dinner in the bale at sunset. It definitely was the best and most romantic dinner we ever had. Everything was so perfect. Our eyes were pampered by the beauty of the scenery, the magical moment when the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean; our ears were indulged with the choir of the birds singing; our skin was caressed with the gentle wind; and our taste buds were spoilt with the mouth-watering dishes. It truly felt like heaven on earth.
Relaxing Body & Mind
The spa at the Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort is a sanctuary for weary travellers, stressed professionals and all those seeking rejuvenation of the body and soul. It is also perfect for couples that want to have some relaxing time together and it was exactly what the doctor ordered for us. A generous selection of health and beauty treatments, available in indoor or outdoor settings, enhances one’s sense of well-being and eases away the stress.
Our first night at the resort, we surrendered ourselves to the expert hands of the therapist as we enjoyed the Balinese signature massage. With each stroke, our aching and tired muscles were soothed, leaving us feeling so relaxed. After our treatment, we went to the relaxation area and enjoyed a refreshing juice amidst the surrounding greenery and with the sound of the water and the gentle breezes.
A Swing or Two
The resort offers a combination of world-class facilities, including swimming pools and water activities, a traditional Balinese spa, cycling, tennis and squash. You cannot stay at the resort without having a few swings at the award-winning Nirwana Bali Golf Course, which is as stunning as it is challenging for golfers of all levels. My partner, who came to the resort well prepared, was eager to try some swings. The 18-hole, Greg Norman-designed layout is among Asia’s most visually spectacular courses. The par-72 course features holes carved out of terraced rice paddies and winding creeks. The site’s natural features have been preserved, while creating some of golf’s most dramatic holes and breathtaking vistas. Holes 7 and 13 in particular are amongst the most dramatic in the world, as players tee off from cliff tops across open ocean inlets to uphill Bermuda greens in the distance. The view from the seventh tee is particularly dramatic, with Tanah Lot Temple proudly standing in the distance.
